In 2013, Darrell was President pro Tempore of the State Senate, and I was President of the Central Valley Flood Protection Board. At that time, the Board was in a bind. We needed help dealing with people and agencies that endanger the public by placing illegal or non-permitted encroachments on, under, or through levees without State or Federal permission. Darrell authored and carried public safety legislation giving our Board a streamlined process and the legal tools to take action and protect the public.

But my relationship with Darrell goes back much farther. I was City Manager in 1992 when Darrell Steinberg was first elected to the Sacramento City Council. We had a vision for revitalizing and promoting partnerships between our city and its diverse neighborhoods. Darrell was instrumental in providing the policy and political leadership needed to move Sacramento forward. I’m confident Mayor Steinberg will make Sacramento an even better place to live, work, and have fun. He has my full support.
